Dr. Andrea Renata Dean
" The Blood Doctor"

Dr. Dean is a Michigan native.  She graduated from Wayne State University in 2001, magna cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. In 2005, she obtained her Doctorate of Medicine from Wayne State School of Medicine. In 2008, she completed her Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Texas Houston. After which, Dr. Dean worked as a Hospitalist at Providence Park Hospital in Novi, Michigan before starting her fellowship in Leukemia at MD Anderson Cancer Center. There she was able to work with some of the world-renowned leukemia specialists, Drs. Hagop Kantarjian and Jorge Cortes. In 2013, she completed her fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of North Carolina Chapel-Hill, which is known for its exceptional training in benign hematology. In addition, Dr. Dean has spent time at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and San Rafael Hospital in Milan, Italy  during the course of her training. 

Dr. Dean is a board certified Hematologist/Oncologist with 18 years of experience. She has spent the past 9 years working at Loyola University Medical Center Chicago as a specialist in benign and malignant blood disorders. She has taught medical students, residents and fellows in training. She has participated in both laboratory and clinical research which has led to publications.   She has been a member of the American Telemedicine Association, American Society of Hematology and American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Dean has volunteered in the community and her local church. In 2018, she was honored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for her volunteer work.

Dr. Dean is passionate about outreach and providing expert hematological care to the community. She has been described as compassionate and caring by her patients. She builds strong physician-patient relationships. Dr. Dean believes it is a privilege and honor to care for patients.  She is the founder of Hematology Connect which increases access to benign hematology care in Illinois. Patients can schedule an appointment online to be seen virtually anywhere within the state.
